Not exactly the beach bunnies you were looking for...but nevertheless, awesome. We all know that nuns have taken wing over the skies, thanks to Sally Field’s immortalizing role in The Flying Nun, but now it seems the ladies of the cloth are taking over the seas, too. If you want to experience one of the most entertaining events you’ll ever encounter, head over to Stone Harbor, New Jersey for the 15th Annual Nun’s Beach Surf Invitational!

Even though its only the 15th annual competition, the tradition...

Doing this barefoot...most impressive. All of last week, all of the best barefoot water skiing teams from around the world gathered in Brandenburg, Germany to compete in the 2010 Barefoot Water Ski World Championships. Out of more than 130 athletes representing 15 different countries, I’m thrilled to report that the USA took home gold medals for both the Elite and Junior Barefoot Water Ski teams! Also, the US Senior Team came in a nail-bittingly close second place to Australia’s team, only 67 points behind.

This victory is not exactly unfamiliar to the team…this is their...

At long last, an update in the world of weird watersports! I’ve just come across yet another addition to my ever-growing list. Welcome to the club, canoe polo!

Early canoe polo Admittedly, canoe polo sounds far less strange than, say, horse surfing, but it still makes me wonder why it was necessary to combine the two sports. Water polo is difficult enough as it is without having to worry about not capsizing! Despite its obscurity, it does have its own unique background.

It came about in the 1880s...

Here’s an unforgettable place to add to your list of places to go before you die. I’ll give you a hint…it’s in Florida and it’s got a ton of animals running around. (No, not Disney World.) It’s even better.

A little taste of what's in store for you!

Back in May, I read an article about Tom Jones, a man on a mission to make our oceans plastic free. On May 13th, he embarked from his home in Key West, Florida on an 11-foot SUP board to paddle 1,500 miles up the east coast to make it to New York City in time for the paddle board race around Manhattan.

Tom Jones arriving safely in New York City!...

The John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in the Florida Keys is getting ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary this December! Dedicated on December 10, 1960 by (you guessed it) John Pennekamp, the country’s first underwater park was created to protect and preserve the natural resources within the Keys, a large portion of America’s only living coral barrier reef.

You could get used to this, no? Some of the highlights of the big celebration, lasting from December 1st-11th, will include an underwater celebration around one of the...

Two kiteboarders are going to attempt what seems like something out of Back to the Future, minus the crazy doctor and a rusty old DeLorean. They’re going to travel forwards in time on their boards!!

Before you go and try smashing your car into a wall going 88 miles per hour, allow me to elaborate.

Yes, that is Troy. Kiteboarding past penguins. Nonchalantly. Troy Henkels and Geza Sholtz,...
